A mid-morning fire ripped through parts of the Jacobu Police Quarters in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, destroying four rooms and leaving officers counting their losses.

The incident occurred at House No. AV-0017-3613, located near St. Peter’s Preparatory School, sending residents scrambling for safety as thick smoke billowed into the sky.

According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Bekwai Fire Station received the distress call at exactly 11:56 a.m. Despite the long distance and rough terrain leading to the quarters, the crew, led by STNO II Agyemang Duah, pushed through and arrived on the scene at 12:25 p.m.

Within minutes, firefighters launched an aggressive attack on the flames, bringing the blaze under control by 12:34 p.m. The team worked tirelessly until the fire was fully snuffed out at 1:28 p.m.

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS confirmed that although four of the ten rooms were completely gutted, along with their contents, the remaining six rooms were saved through swift tactical firefighting. No injuries or deaths were recorded.

Residents looked on in distress as charred furniture, burnt uniforms, and personal belongings lay scattered in the debris.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery for now, as investigations have begun to determine what may have sparked the blaze.
