The General Secretary of the newly formed United Party (UP Plus) has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as a more mature, thoughtful, and strategic approach to governance compared to his previous tenure.

Speaking on The Pulse on Joy News, the former Adentan MP and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commended the President’s evolution in leadership since his return to power after the 2024 elections.

“This is not President Mahama of 10 years ago. He has matured, he’s deliberate in his decision-making, and he’s trying to plan. There’s no doubt about it. His governance style has changed,” the UP Plus executive observed.

He noted that while 10 months in office is too early to make a comprehensive judgment, President Mahama’s early decisions signal a more focused and inclusive leadership direction.

“Sustainable transformation cannot be assessed in 10 months. At this stage, all you can do is make your appointments, craft your action plans, and begin to deliver. Already, you can see his government’s challenges with galamsey and a few other issues, but his approach shows intent,” he remarked.

The former legislator highlighted the administration’s efforts to address illegal mining (galamsey) and its decision to appoint technocrats and civil society figures into key roles as evidence of a shift from partisan to competence-based governance.

“He’s tried to reach out into civil society and other professional spaces. He’s trying to build his team with competent minds rather than just loyalty,” he said.

Mr. Mahama, who previously served as President from 2012 to 2017, returned to the presidency after winning the 2024 general elections.

According to the UP Plus General Secretary, this new phase of Mahama’s leadership reflects valuable lessons learned during his years out of office.

“It really shows that staying out of power for 10 years gave him time to reflect, to learn, and to grow,” he concluded.
