The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has strongly criticised comments made by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, describing them as irresponsible and regrettable.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Mr. Blay rejected Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s assertion that the NPP is a “fake party,” stating that such a description is inaccurate and unfair to the party and its members.
“I completely disagree with what he said. Describing the party as fake is outrageous. I do not even understand what he meant by that statement,” Mr. Blay said.
He stressed that while he holds Prof. Frimpong-Boateng in high regard, his recent comments were inappropriate and damaging to the image of the party.
“I have a lot of respect for Professor Frimpong-Boateng, but what he said was not right. It was irresponsible,” he added.
Mr. Blay explained that the NPP remains a democratic party where members are free to express differing views, even if they sometimes disagree with one another. However, he argued that internal disagreements do not justify branding the party as fake.
“The party is not a fake party. We have all been involved in its processes. We have been democratic. We disagree to agree sometimes, but that does not make the party fake,” he stated.
He also dismissed claims that the party’s leadership or flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was imposed on members, describing such assertions as misleading.
“Saying the party is fake because a candidate is being imposed, is irresponsible,” Mr. Blay said.
The NPP National Chairman further indicated that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng would be required to explain his comments before the party’s disciplinary committee at the appropriate time.
“He will be asked to explain what he meant by those remarks, and that will be when he appears before the disciplinary committee,” he noted.
Mr. Blay concluded by reaffirming that the NPP remains united and focused, insisting that the party is on the right path despite internal debates and differing opinions.
