German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has embarked on a three-day state visit to Ghana, aimed at deepening the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries. The visit, which began on Sunday, November 2, and will run until Tuesday, November 4, 2025, is focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, technology, and development.

During his visit, President Steinmeier met with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, for closed-door discussions and bilateral talks at the Jubilee House in Accra. The two leaders are expected to focus on enhancing Ghana-Germany relations, particularly in areas of trade, investment, technology, and development cooperation.

Key Highlights of the Visit

– Inspection of Guard of Honour: President Steinmeier inspected a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Presidency.
– Bilateral Talks: The two leaders held closed-door discussions and bilateral talks in the Credentials Room.
– Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park: President Steinmeier visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where he laid a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
– Meeting with Young IT Specialists: The German President engaged with young Ghanaian IT specialists, highlighting the importance of technology and innovation in Ghana’s development.
– Visit to Kumasi: On Tuesday, President Steinmeier traveled to Kumasi, where he performed a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute and interacted with the Vice Chancellor, staff, and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening the partnership between Ghana and Germany, with both countries committed to cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and sustainable development. Germany has been one of Ghana’s significant European development partners, supporting projects in renewable energy, vocational training, and private sector growth.
