The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly cautioned parents and guardians against making payments for senior high school (SHS) placements, stressing that the process is completely free and transparent.

In a statement signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described as false recent claims on social media suggesting that parents are being compelled to pay money in order to secure placement for their wards.

“Placement into any Senior High School or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution is absolutely free of charge,” the statement said, adding that no parent, guardian, or student should part with money for such purposes.

The GES emphasized that the only legitimate platforms for placement are the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal, officially designated Resolution Centres, and other verified GES communication outlets.

Parents and guardians were further urged to report any individual or group demanding money for placement to either the nearest police station or the GES itself. The Service assured the public that swift action would be taken against perpetrators of such extortion schemes.

Reaffirming its stance, the GES noted that the placement exercise is strictly merit-based and guided by fairness and transparency.

“We remain committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all qualified candidates and will not tolerate any attempts to exploit parents or students,” the Service stressed.

The caution comes as thousands of anxious students and parents continue to visit help centres across the country in hopes of resolving placement challenges.
