The Ghana Education Service has begun investigations into allegations of poor student feeding at Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region following the circulation of a video on social media.
In an official statement issued on Friday, January 16, 2026, the Service confirmed that it had taken notice of the footage and described the matter as one requiring immediate attention.
According to the statement, the welfare of students, particularly the quality of meals provided in public schools, remains a critical concern for the Service. GES cautioned that any act of negligence or mismanagement within the feeding system would be dealt with firmly.
The Service reiterated that government investments in school feeding have yielded noticeable improvements nationwide, largely due to closer coordination between school administrations and the National Buffer Stock Company.
Responding to public anxiety, GES clarified that the situation captured in the video does not represent the general feeding conditions in senior high schools across the country. It stressed that the incident at Savelugu SHS is being treated as an isolated case pending the outcome of investigations.
As part of corrective measures, GES announced that its monitoring teams will increase surprise inspections in schools to ensure compliance with feeding standards and to prevent future lapses.
The Service also called on headteachers and other stakeholders to communicate challenges early, noting that timely reporting is essential for swift intervention and sustained improvement in student welfare.
