The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to heads of schools across the country, cautioning them against demanding or collecting Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees from parents without proper authorization.
According to Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service has not authorized any school to impose or request PTA levies from parents as part of the ongoing school admissions and reopening process.
Mr. Fenyi emphasized that such actions are unauthorized and must be reported immediately to the appropriate education authorities for redress.
“The Ghana Education Service has not authorized any school to request or collect PTA fees from parents. Such actions are considered unauthorized and must be reported,” he stated.
The GES Public Relations Head reiterated that the Service remains committed to ensuring free and equitable access to secondary education under the government’s Free SHS policy. He urged parents not to succumb to pressure from school officials demanding extra payments outside officially approved charges.
Education analysts have also called for stronger monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance with GES directives and prevent exploitation of parents during the admission period.
