The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reassured fans that midfielder Francis Abu is in stable condition after sustaining a frightening injury during Ghana’s Kirin Cup clash with Japan.

Abu, who represents Toulouse FC, was stretchered off the pitch at Toyota Stadium on Friday after appearing to suffer a serious ankle injury in the second half. He was replaced by Alidu Seidu as Ghana battled to stay in the game.

In an official statement, the GFA confirmed that Abu received immediate treatment on the field before being transported to Toyota Memorial Hospital for further care.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to inform the public that Francis Abu is stable following his injury against Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup. He was fouled by Tanaka Ao early in the second half and received prompt medical attention at the stadium before being transferred to Toyota Memorial Hospital,” the statement said.

The Association noted that Abu’s care is being managed collaboratively by the Black Stars’ medical team, Toulouse FC’s doctor, and hospital staff, with a comprehensive plan in place for his recovery.

“The Association thanks Ghanaians for their support and solidarity during this time. Updates on Abu’s surgery and rehabilitation will be shared in due course. We wish him a speedy recovery,” the statement added.

On the sporting front, Ghana fell 2-0 to Japan and now turns attention to their next friendly against South Korea on Tuesday, November 18, in Seoul, with kick-off scheduled for 10:00 a.m. local time.
