The Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE) has launched a three-week European Union–sponsored Ammunition Management and Technology Course at Michel Camp, began on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

The specialized training, led by French instructors, forms part of an ongoing EU–Ghana security cooperation initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) personnel in modern ammunition storage, handling, and stockpile management. It also seeks to deepen collaboration between the EU and the GAF in the area of defence capability enhancement.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Guest of Honour and Commander of the Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, lauded the EU for its consistent support to the Ghana Armed Forces. He highlighted that the changing nature of modern warfare requires advanced technological approaches to ammunition oversight, citing innovations such as QR-coded tracking systems.

Brig Gen Amanor underscored the importance of effective ammunition management to operational readiness, warning that lapses in stockpile accountability could lead to dire consequences. He urged participants to approach the course with diligence and professionalism and to apply the knowledge acquired to improve safety and efficiency in their respective units.

Acting Commander of GASAE, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Tetteh-Kumah, noted that the programme marks another major step in enhancing the professional competence of GAF personnel in the safe, responsible, and accountable management of ammunition and explosives.

Representing the European Union, Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Surville delivered a statement on behalf of the EU Ambassador to Ghana. He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s defence capacity-building initiatives, stressing that proper ammunition management remains essential for national security, stability, and overall combat effectiveness.
