President John Mahama received a warm reception from Ghanaian nationals in New York upon his arrival to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80).

Crowds of Ghanaians gathered at the airport and surrounding areas, waving national flags, chanting patriotic slogans, and expressing excitement at the President’s presence. Many hailed the visit as an opportunity to showcase Ghana’s role on the global stage and to strengthen ties with the international community.

President Mahama is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s address to the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, and will participate in key side events, including sessions on Africa’s economic and institutional development.

In addition to his official duties, the President’s itinerary includes bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, heads of state, and global leaders, as well as engagements with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce. First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, who is part of the delegation, is expected to attend side events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote at a World Vision International prayer service for children.

The enthusiastic reception from the Ghanaian diaspora reflects their pride in the country’s leadership and their support for initiatives aimed at advancing Ghana’s interests on the world stage.
