The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has taken disciplinary action against six of its officers after a viral video captured them verbally abusing a superior officer while on duty.
In a statement, the Service explained that the senior officer involved, who identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOL), was travelling in a commercial vehicle when he encountered the officers.
The confrontation occurred on November 25, 2025, at the Offinso In-land Checkpoint, where the interdicted officers were stationed. The footage circulating online shows conduct described by the Service as inappropriate, disrespectful, and completely at odds with the standards expected of GIS personnel.
According to the statement, the actions of the officers amount to a blatant violation of the Ghana Immigration Service Code of Conduct, prompting their immediate interdiction.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) reaffirmed that the Service upholds professionalism, discipline, and respect for authority as non-negotiable values, stressing that any behaviour that compromises these principles will attract strict sanctions.
GIS added that a full investigation is underway in accordance with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2245). The outcome, the Service assured, will determine the next line of disciplinary measures.
The Service also apologised to the public for the conduct displayed in the video and pledged its continued commitment to enforcing discipline and maintaining high professional standards across its ranks.
