The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced a reward for anyone who can help identify the individual who stabbed a firefighter during a fire operation at Adjiringanor, near Ability Square, on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The incident occurred while firefighters were tackling a severe blaze that engulfed a two-storey, eight-room building. A GNFS spokesperson said the attack was unprovoked, and the assailant fled the scene before being apprehended.
“Our teams acted swiftly and professionally to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings,” the spokesperson noted, adding that a formal investigation is ongoing.
The fire reportedly started around 9:30 p.m., with the first crew from the Legon Fire Station arriving at 10:03 p.m. Backup teams from Madina, Adenta, and the GNFS Headquarters, along with a private water tanker, ensured a continuous water supply throughout the operation. The fire was brought under control by 12:16 a.m. and fully extinguished at 1:08 a.m.
Seven top-floor rooms were destroyed, but firefighters successfully saved the remaining top-floor room, all ground-floor rooms, and surrounding structures.
Two firefighters were injured during the operation: one suffered a stab wound to the left arm, while another was hit on the shoulder by a falling block. Both received treatment at Unity Clinic in Madina and have since been discharged.
With the dry season increasing the risk of fires, the GNFS urges the public to prioritise fire safety and promptly report hazards. Authorities are appealing for assistance in identifying the attacker.
“We have a special reward for anyone who helps us bring this individual to justice,” the spokesperson confirmed.
