The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed the arrest of Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, two of the four individuals declared wanted in connection with an alleged gold smuggling syndicate.
According to an official statement, both suspects voluntarily turned themselves in to authorities and have since been arraigned before the High Court to face charges including gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold, and transporting gold without a valid license, among other offenses.
The arrests form part of an ongoing national crackdown on illegal gold trading and export operations. The remaining two suspects are still at large, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.
Officials at GoldBod reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within Ghana’s gold sector, emphasizing that such illegal operations undermine the country’s economic integrity and international reputation.
The case has been adjourned as investigations continue.
