The Ministry of the Interior has disbursed funds to offset outstanding rent allowance arrears owed to personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service for the 2025 fiscal year.

The payment is intended to cover all qualified officers within the three agencies who were affected by the delay in the release of the allowances.

In an official communication issued by the Ministry’s Public Affairs and Communications Unit, government authorities acknowledged the patience demonstrated by the affected personnel while the payments were pending.

As part of measures to avoid a recurrence, the Ministry disclosed plans to overhaul the current payment structure. Effective March 2026, rent allowances will be automated and integrated into officers’ monthly salary processing system.

Officials believe the mechanised arrangement will promote consistency and eliminate administrative bottlenecks that previously contributed to delays, while also strengthening the welfare framework within the services.

The Ministry further reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the interests of personnel under its jurisdiction and indicated that collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant institutions will continue to ensure timely settlement of all approved benefits.
