The government has committed GH₵150 million (US$13 million) to the Black Stars as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced in Parliament on Thursday, November 13.

Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement, Dr. Forson said the allocation forms part of a renewed national push to strengthen Ghana’s presence on the global sporting stage and ensure the senior national team is adequately resourced ahead of the tournament.

He said Ghana’s recent qualification for the World Cup demonstrates the impact of sustained public investment in sports development.

“The government’s continued support for sports has already yielded encouraging results, with the Black Stars securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he said. “An amount of GH₵150 million has been set aside to support their participation.”

Dr. Forson added that government remains committed to modernizing sports infrastructure across the country, revealing that plans are underway to build additional stadiums in selected regions to expand access for young athletes and sporting communities.

Ghana will know its group-stage opponents when the official World Cup draw is held in Washington, DC, on December 5.
