Ghana will begin the construction of three new modern stadiums next year as part of a renewed national effort to expand sporting infrastructure and develop talent across the country.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement on Thursday, November 13, 2025, while presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament. He said the new stadiums will be situated in three of the eight regions that currently lack standard sports facilities.
“Construction of modern stadia will begin in three of the eight regions without such facilities,” Dr. Forson told lawmakers, reaffirming government’s commitment to bridging regional disparities in sports development.
Regions including Ahafo, North East, Savannah, Oti, and Western North remain without approved stadium infrastructure, a long-standing gap the government says it is now poised to close.
Beyond infrastructure, Dr. Forson noted that government is rolling out a broader sports development plan covering athlete welfare, talent grooming, and competitive preparation, especially as Ghana gears up for major international events such as the FIFA World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
He also announced that Ghana’s Anti-Doping Regulations will be finalised in 2026 to ensure integrity and clean competition across all sporting disciplines.
“Government will invest in athlete welfare, sports infrastructure, and talent development as we prepare for the FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games, and other tournaments,” he added.
“The Anti-Doping Regulations will be completed to enforce clean sports.”
According to the minister, these measures are designed to create an enabling environment for Ghanaian athletes to excel and to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness on the global sporting stage.
