The Government of Grenada has announced plans to recruit Ghanaian nurses and allied health professionals as part of efforts to address a critical shortage of healthcare workers in the Caribbean nation.

The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Government of Ghana, under the country’s Work Abroad Programme, which aims to create sustainable employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaian professionals while strengthening international partnerships.

According to officials, Grenada’s health sector has been facing an acute shortfall in trained personnel, a situation that has put pressure on hospitals and community clinics. The recruitment of Ghanaian health workers is expected to bridge this gap and improve access to quality healthcare services.

The move also reflects growing international confidence in Ghana’s healthcare training system, which continues to produce nurses and medical staff recognized for their competence and professionalism worldwide.

The Work Abroad Programme, introduced by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in partnership with the Ministry of Health, provides a structured framework for exporting Ghanaian expertise while ensuring fair compensation and protection for workers abroad.

Under the agreement, selected Ghanaian nurses and allied health professionals will undergo orientation and cultural preparation before being deployed to Grenada’s public and private health institutions.

Officials say the recruitment process will prioritize transparency, skill-based selection, and alignment with international labour standards.

The collaboration is also expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Grenada, paving the way for future exchanges in education, health, and capacity building.
