The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has restored all services to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) following the resolution of a standoff over the Vice Chancellor’s compulsory retirement.
On September 19, GTEC had withdrawn services to UCC after Vice Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong allegedly failed to comply with its directive on the mandatory retirement age. The sanctions affected accreditation processes, payment of salaries, GETFund support, research allowances, and recruitment clearances.
In a statement signed by Acting Director of Corporate Affairs, Jerry Sarfo, GTEC confirmed the restoration of services after UCC presented proof of compliance. The commission also announced that UCC has been reinstated on its website as a fully accredited institution.
GTEC acknowledged the university’s cooperation during the period and noted that Prof. Boampong has taken the matter to court.
