The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has closed down 18 health facilities in Kumasi, including the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic, for operating without valid licenses.
The shutdown followed an inspection tour of 20 facilities across the metropolis as part of HeFRA’s ongoing nationwide enforcement and compliance campaign aimed at sanitizing the health sector.
According to Mr. Agyeman Badu, the Director of Compliance and Enforcement at HeFRA, several of the affected facilities had either failed to renew their operational licenses or were operating without proper certification, in violation of national health regulations.
He explained that the enforcement exercise is intended to safeguard patient safety, promote professional accountability, and ensure that all health facilities adhere strictly to established standards.
HeFRA has further cautioned that similar enforcement operations will soon be extended to other regions, as part of efforts to clamp down on unlicensed health facilities and uphold quality healthcare delivery nationwide.
