Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to more than four years in prison following his conviction on prostitution-related charges.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian delivered the 50-month sentence on Friday in Manhattan federal court. Combs, 55, had faced up to 20 years in prison but was acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges, which carried a potential life sentence.
The jury found him guilty of arranging for paid male escorts to cross state lines and participate in drug-fuelled sexual performances with his girlfriends, which he recorded.
Before sentencing, Combs apologized to his former partners, including singer Casandra Ventura and another woman identified in court as Jane, both of whom accused him of abuse. “I know I’ll never put my hands on another person again,” he told the court.
Combs has been in custody since his September 2024 arrest and is expected to appeal the conviction. His defence team argued he acted under the influence of drug addiction and sought a shorter sentence, while prosecutors pushed for more than a decade, citing a history of domestic violence.
His children pleaded for leniency, with his 18-year-old daughter Jessie telling the judge, “He is still our dad, and we still need him present in our lives.”
Combs, founder of Bad Boy Records and a major figure in hip-hop, is one of the most prominent entertainment industry leaders in recent years to face trial on sex-related charges.
