The Hohoe Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has honoured outstanding educators and school staff at this year’s Best Teacher/Workers Awards, held under the theme: “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education.”

The event brought together teachers, administrative staff, traditional leaders, and community members to celebrate the vital role of education professionals in shaping the future of the municipality and the nation. The theme emphasised that motivating and supporting teachers is key to delivering high-quality education.

Addressing the gathering, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Prosper Kumi highlighted the critical influence of teachers in Hohoe’s development. He referenced the Vice President’s recent National Teachers Prize Ceremony speech, noting that educators’ skills, dedication, and values are essential to driving national growth and the 24-hour economy agenda.

Mr. Kumi called on residents to continue supporting educators and urged stakeholders to collaborate in creating an environment where teachers can excel and students can reach their full potential. He also commended the awardees for their resilience and commitment despite challenges in the education sector.

The Member of Parliament for Hohoe Constituency, Mr. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, reiterated that education remains the greatest equaliser. He assured educators that the awards scheme will grow in significance, promising larger incentives, including vehicles and other major recognitions for outstanding performance.

He encouraged teachers and education staff to continue transforming schools, strengthening educational foundations, and nurturing the next generation of leaders for Hohoe, Ghana, Africa, and beyond. Mr. Tsekpo also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to teacher welfare through improved working conditions, professional development opportunities, and the provision of teaching and learning materials.

During the ceremony, the Municipal Director of Education and Assembly representatives presented awards to educators and staff who demonstrated excellence in teaching, leadership, innovation, and administrative support. Several awardees expressed gratitude, describing the recognition as a motivating factor to continue their work with dedication.

Cultural performances, messages from partner organisations, and calls for stronger collaboration between schools and communities were also part of the programme. Stakeholders concluded the event by renewing their commitment to prioritising educators’ welfare and building structures that enhance effective teaching and learning.

The 2025 Best Teacher/Workers Awards reinforced the central message of the day: empowering educators is fundamental to achieving quality education for all.
