The Paramount Chief of Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region, Osuodumgya Barima Apea-Dwaah Boafo, has welcomed the government’s proposed 24-hour market initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could stimulate the local economy and reduce unemployment.

The chief made the remarks during an inspection of the proposed market site in Hwidiem by traditional authorities, officials from the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), and representatives of the Asutifi South District Assembly.

According to Osuodumgya Barima Apea-Dwaah Boafo, situating the project in Hwidiem, the district capital, is a strategic decision that will benefit traders and residents alike. He assured the delegation of the full backing of the traditional council to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.

The District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, Mr Benjamin Assabil Donkor, explained that the RCC had approved the current weekly market square as the location for the proposed 24-hour market.

He noted that although the district has several available lands, the choice of the existing market space would better support the objectives of the initiative by building on established trading activities.

Mr Donkor stressed that the project is expected to open up economic opportunities for residents and called on the community to support government efforts to make the initiative a success.

When completed, the 24-hour market is anticipated to boost commerce, expand trading hours, and create employment for people in Hwidiem and surrounding communities within the Asutifi South District.
