The Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has placed an immediate ban on all police leave for the rest of the year as the Ghana Police Service intensifies preparations for the festive season under a new nationwide security initiative dubbed Operation Disaster-Free Christmas.

The directive was announced by the Jamestown District Police Commander, Superintendent William Abisah, during a detailed briefing on the Service’s operational strategy for the Christmas and New Year period.

Presenting the operational plan, Supt. Abisah explained that the Service had already commenced expanded day and night patrols ahead of the yuletide. He said the suspension of leave forms part of efforts to maximise police presence across the country during what is traditionally one of the busiest and highest-risk periods.

“I’m here to present our operational order for the Christmas festivities,” he stated. “As we all know, the Christmas season is approaching, and we have already begun day and night patrols as we do every year. I am also here to inform you that the IGP has banned leave for all police officers. For that matter, we are preparing seriously for Christmas.”

The nationwide operation is expected to include increased patrols, visibility policing, traffic management, crowd control in commercial centres, and rapid response deployments to prevent crime and maintain order.

The Police Service says the goal is to guarantee a safe, peaceful, and incident-free holiday season for all citizens and visitors.
