The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has paid a visit to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to check on a police officer who suffered serious injuries during the violent disturbances that recently rocked Sampa in the Bono Region.

According to police accounts, eight officers came under intense gunfire while on patrol duty in the troubled town. Their service vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into a ditch as the officers attempted to take cover from the heavy shooting.

While seven officers were treated and discharged, one was transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Medical authorities have since confirmed that the injured officer is stable and recovering steadily.

Following the attack, the IGP directed a high-level delegation from the Police Management Board (POMAB) to move to Sampa immediately to assess the security situation and ensure the welfare of police personnel deployed to the area.

The team is also expected to hold talks with the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), local chiefs, opinion leaders, and youth representatives to restore calm and build community cooperation towards peace.

To further secure the area, reinforcement units from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been dispatched to Sampa and neighbouring communities to maintain law and order.

The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of its firm commitment to protecting lives and property, while working closely with regional stakeholders to prevent a recurrence of the clashes and sustain long-term peace in the Bono Region.
