Son of late highlife icon Dada KD, JIM PEE, has opened up about his father’s spiritual beliefs, clarifying that although the musician questioned certain biblical narratives, he never doubted the existence of God.

Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, JIM PEE addressed public perceptions about his father’s faith, insisting that the highlife legend remained spiritually grounded throughout his life.

Providing context about their upbringing, he stated firmly, “We were born Christian. My father never said he did not believe in God.”

According to him, Dada KD’s music itself reflected his faith and acknowledgment of a higher power.

Highlighting this aspect of his father’s artistry, JIM PEE said, “Even in some of his songs, he acknowledged God.” He further revealed that beyond highlife, his father even produced gospel songs, demonstrating that spirituality was not foreign to him.

However, he explained that Dada KD’s faith journey involved deeper reflection and personal awakening.

Describing this transformation, JIM PEE noted, “There is something called awakening. If you get to that stage, you begin to find out that some of the things we have been taught about religion are not true.”

He cited examples to explain his father’s perspective on religious imagery and tradition. “Like the Jesus picture we have, that is not Him, but we even have them in some of our churches,” he said, suggesting that his father questioned certain cultural representations embedded in Christian practice.

Despite these critiques, JIM PEE stressed that his father’s views were not rooted in denial of God’s existence but rather in a personal understanding of spirituality.

Explaining Dada KD’s core belief, he said, “He taught that God lives in us, and it is through sharing love with others that you can serve God.”

Reinforcing the central point, JIM PEE concluded emphatically, “He never said God does not exist.”
