The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Justin Kodua, has opened up about the personal attacks and political pressure surrounding the party’s presidential primaries, describing the process as one of the most critical moments in the party’s history.
Speaking on Lawson FM, Mr. Kodua revealed that he has endured numerous derogatory remarks since the contest began but remains focused on the party’s long-term goal of regaining power in the 2028 general elections.
“Many derogatory things have been said about me, but this only shows how important the flagbearer election has become,” he stated.
He commended national party organizers for resisting premature public endorsements and excessive self-promotion, noting that such restraint had helped bring sanity into the process compared to past contests.
Mr. Kodua also explained that recent events have vindicated calls for the presidential primaries to be held on January 1, 2026, a proposal that was initially misunderstood by many party members.
Reflecting on the party’s 2024 electoral defeat, he disclosed that internal reports had helped the NPP identify key mistakes and areas for improvement ahead of the 2028 elections. According to him, these lessons have strengthened his resolve to ignore distractions and focus on rebuilding the party.
“All the insults do not break me because I know what lies ahead for us as a party,” he said, emphasizing unity and strategic planning as essential to the NPP’s comeback.
