Kakum National Park is experiencing one of its strongest tourism seasons in recent years, attracting a combined total of 805,167 visitors across 2024 and the first ten months of 2025. The surge underscores the park’s growing reputation as a must-visit destination for both Ghanaians and international travellers.

Park Manager, Alex Agyei, shared the updated figures, describing the steady rise as a major boost for eco-tourism in the Central Region. He revealed that the park received 204,000 visitors in 2024, securing its position as Ghana’s second most patronised attraction after the Kwame Nkrumah Museum. The momentum continued into 2025, with 601,167 visitors recorded between January and October alone.

According to Mr. Agyei, tourists from the United States made up the largest proportion of international guests, followed by visitors from China and Spain, alongside strong domestic participation.

The new statistics were announced during a ceremony where the Nature Conservation Research Centre (NCRC) renewed its commitment to supporting the Kakum Conservation Area. To strengthen on-ground protection efforts, the organisation handed over 22 jungle motorbikes, two laptops and two GPS units to the Forestry Commission.

Stretching just 30 kilometres north of Cape Coast, the Kakum Conservation Area remains one of Ghana’s richest forest ecosystems. It forms part of the West Africa Guinea Forest Biodiversity Hotspot and shelters an impressive range of wildlife, over 260 bird species and more than 40 mammals, including rare forest elephants, pangolins, and the elusive bongo antelope.
