Former National Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdullai, has expressed strong confidence that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will win the party’s upcoming presidential primary with at least 70% of the total votes.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Kamal-Deen described the Vice President’s victory as “already blessed by God” and said it will happen “whether rain or shine.”
He urged NPP members to maintain unity after the internal contest, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia will require the support of all aspirants to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Bawumia is winning the elections hands down; he will secure 70% of the votes. After the elections, he won’t run the campaign alone; he will need everyone on board. The other aspirants are respectable, and I have no personal issues with them. However, everyone has their time. What God has ordained will prevail,” Kamal-Deen stated.
He also warned that internal attacks and acrimony could undermine the party’s rebuilding efforts, especially after losing key voter bases in the 2024 elections.
Addressing claims by an NDC MP alleging assistance from within the NPP during her election, Kamal-Deen stressed the need for the party to confront internal weaknesses.
“We must be careful with our words, regardless of whom we support. It’s important to critically assess why we lost the general elections. We lost our core voters, so caution is necessary going into the primaries. Internal conflict will not help. If we come together, complete the primaries smoothly, get our executives in place, and work hard, I believe we can perform better and even beat the NDC. We should focus on what benefits the party,” he added.
