The body of 12-year-old David, who was swept away by the Okrudu River during a heavy downpour, has been recovered four days after the tragic incident.
The remains were discovered at Fijai in the Gomoa East District following an intensive search led by local residents and authorities.
The tragedy occurred at Kasoa American Town in the Awutu Senya East Municipality when David’s slippers slipped into a nearby gutter as he went to pick up his siblings from school. In attempting to retrieve them, he entered the Okrudu River and was overpowered by the strong current.
Shadrach Boakye Yiadom, Assemblyman for the Kasoa American Town Electoral Area, confirmed the recovery to Adom News and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He urged residents to exercise caution during heavy rains and called on municipal authorities to address open drains and unsafe river crossings.
“This incident is heartbreaking. We must all take flooding and drainage issues seriously to prevent further loss of life,” Mr. Yiadom said.
The Kasoa community has been left devastated by the boy’s death, as family and residents mourn the tragic loss.
