Social media is buzzing after a viral post described Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, as the “only runaway Finance Minister of all time in Ghana’s history.”
The post, circulating under hashtags like #GhanaNews, #GhanaTalks, and #Politics, appears to criticize Ofori-Atta’s handling of the economy and his eventual exit from office. Many users have since joined the conversation, debating the fairness and context of the label.
Some commenters argue that the tag reflects public frustration over Ghana’s past economic challenges, including debt restructuring, high inflation, and the controversial IMF bailout. Others, however, say it is a harsh exaggeration, noting that Ofori-Atta remained in office during some of the country’s toughest fiscal reforms.
The former minister, who served under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has yet to respond to the trending remarks. Meanwhile, the discussion continues to highlight the polarizing legacy of his tenure, one marked by both ambitious economic programs and intense public criticism.
