The King of the United Kingdom, His Majesty King Charles III, has joined the people of Asanteman in mourning the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
In a statement from Buckingham Palace, King Charles conveyed his condolences to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Oyoko royal family, and the people of the Ashanti kingdom, describing the loss as deeply felt.
A close friend of the Asantehene and a long-time admirer of Asante culture, the British monarch praised the late Queen Mother for her tireless efforts in safeguarding tradition and guiding her people with wisdom and grace.
“Her Royal Majesty demonstrated a deep devotion to preserving the traditions and unity of the Ashanti throughout her life, and served as an exemplar of wise, fair, and gracious judgment and counsel,” the message read.
King Charles further highlighted Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s humanitarian spirit, pointing to her many years of leadership and her commitment to charitable work that improved the lives of women and children across the kingdom.
“With her many years of guidance, leadership, and tireless service to charitable causes, which touched the lives of so many mothers and children, Her Royal Majesty leaves a lasting legacy for your kingdom,” he stated.
He added that her passing “is an immense loss which I know will be keenly felt in the Ashanti community around the world.”
The statement concluded with King Charles extending his family’s prayers and solidarity to Otumfuo in this period of mourning.
“My special thoughts and prayers are with Your Majesty and your family at this very sad time, and my wife joins me in sending our most heartfelt condolences to all those who share in your mourning,” the British monarch expressed.
