The Department of Herbal Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has honoured Mr. Ebenezer Agyemang, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ebenage Group, producers of Hepa Plus Herbal Mixture, for his outstanding contribution to research and entrepreneurship in Ghana’s herbal medicine sector.

The recognition follows Mr. Agyemang’s establishment of the Hepa Plus Research Awards, an annual initiative that funds innovative undergraduate research projects in herbal medicine.

The scheme has already produced remarkable outcomes, with the first award-winning project becoming part of a university entrepreneurial team that represented KNUST at an international competition in Thailand.

At a brief ceremony on campus, the Head of the Department of Herbal Medicine, Prof. Isaac Kingsley Amponsah, and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Samuel Asare Nkansah, jointly presented a citation of honour to Mr. Agyemang in recognition of his visionary partnership and philanthropic commitment.

The citation read in part:

“Mr. Agyemang’s philanthropic investment transcends monetary value; it ignites innovation, validates student creativity, and bridges academia with industry. We celebrate your generosity and vision, trusting this partnership will flourish for years to come.”

In his remarks, Mr. Agyemang expressed appreciation to the university for the recognition, saying he was inspired by the positive impact the initiative had made so far. He pledged to continue supporting herbal medicine research and nurturing student innovation.

“We must continue to expand the frontiers of herbal medicine through science and entrepreneurship,” he said.

The Department of Herbal Medicine also extended an open invitation to other industry players and practitioners to collaborate with KNUST in advancing herbal research and promoting evidence-based practice.
