National Communication Team Member for the New Patriotic Party, Senyo Amekplenu, has questioned the basis on which a court cancelled only the parliamentary results of the Kpandai constituency while leaving the presidential results untouched.

Speaking on Movement TV, Amekplenu argued that the ruling was inconsistent with past election petition decisions and unfairly targeted one side of the electoral process.

“The NDC Majority Leader said that even if they divided their numbers, we would not be half of theirs,” he recalled. “Then I asked myself: why would you want to twist our arms and take the Kpandai seat?”

Amekplenu stressed that the party strongly disagrees with the decision, insisting the judge erred in law. “We as a political party opposed that ruling,” he said. “I side with my party that the judge erred in that ruling. There are series of cases that have gone on in this country as far as election petitions are concerned, but why is this case different?”

He questioned the logic behind cancelling one category of election results while preserving the other, given that the same electorate took part in both polls. “Whilst they were cancelling the parliamentary side of the election, why did they not also cancel the presidential election?” he asked. “It is the same people who voted in both elections, so if one has been cancelled, then the other should also be cancelled.”
