Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reminded members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that political power must be anchored in unity, sincerity, and service, not just the construction of imposing party offices or physical structures.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly built Bantama Constituency office on Friday, a project spearheaded by MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, Mr. Kufuor urged the rank and file of the party to look beyond appearances and focus on reconciliation and goodwill.

“The building is nice, but if the thoughts inside are not good, then what is the use? Things will never work,” the former president cautioned.

Governance Beyond Structures

Mr. Kufuor explained that the NPP exists to serve the higher purpose of governance, and party members must therefore nurture trust, resolve disputes, and carry each other along for the sake of national progress.

“What is the essence of a party? It is because of government that we have parties. So unity is important. If you have people you can speak to and help change their minds, do so,” he said.

The elder statesman’s remarks come at a time when calls for party discipline and cohesion are growing louder ahead of the 2026 elections, with many within the NPP urging leaders to heal divisions and rally around shared values.

Mr. Kufuor’s message, simple but poignant, served as a reminder that the party’s legacy will not be judged only by the offices it builds but by the sincerity and unity with which it governs.
