The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has instructed traders operating along the roads around the Bantama Market to immediately vacate the area, as the Assembly moves to restore order and ease traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.

The directive was issued during the Mayor’s inspection visit to the market, where he met traders and outlined the Assembly’s plan to relocate roadside vendors to newly secured trading spaces. According to him, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has completed arrangements for the allocation of these spaces, which will begin tomorrow and continue until Friday.

Mayor Boadi explained that the relocation is part of a coordinated effort to improve safety for pedestrians, reduce gridlock, and create a more organised trading environment. He appealed to traders to cooperate fully, stressing that the exercise is designed to benefit both vendors and shoppers by bringing order to the bustling area.

He further cautioned that enforcement will begin on Monday, and traders who refuse to move voluntarily risk losing their goods during the clearance operation.

City task force personnel and market authorities will oversee the relocation process over the next few days to ensure that it proceeds smoothly.

The move forms part of KMA’s wider campaign to regularise trading activities across the metropolis and enforce long-standing regulations that prohibit trading on major roadways.
