The Kwahu Traditional Council has firmly dismissed reports alleging that the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, was abducted, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the Council clarified that the Queen Mother was not taken away against her will, as circulating rumours suggested. Instead, the incident involved a lawful police intervention carried out in response to a directive from the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
According to the Council, the Ghana Police Service acted on an interlocutory injunction granted on June 24, 2024, in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. The injunction restrains Baffour Osei Akoto, who has been presenting himself as Kwahuhene, together with the Queen Mother and others, from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II’s authority and occupancy of the Abene Palace.
The Council stated that police officers stepped in “to secure the peace” and prevent an escalation of tensions, emphasising that their actions constituted lawful enforcement of a valid order, not an abduction.
It further stressed that Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III does not reside at the Abene Palace, nor do the individuals who were arrested, making the circulating narrative of a palace-based abduction inaccurate.
In a stronger clarification, the Council accused the Queen Mother of aligning with persons allegedly attempting to forcefully take control of the palace. It stated that she “engaged thugs in an attempt to forcibly take over the Abene Palace and has issued threats intended to disrupt the legitimate work of the substantive Kwahuhene, Daasebre AkuamoahAgyapong II.”
Reassuring the public, the Council confirmed that all the individuals detained during the operation were unharmed. “All persons arrested by the Police are currently in lawful custody and are safe and in good health,” it said.
The Kwahu Traditional Council urged the public to disregard the false reports and remain calm as the legal processes continue.
