Former Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu, has called on religious leaders to refrain from partisan political involvement, warning that the mixing of religion and politics can create confusion within congregations.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, Hon. Adu said he is uncomfortable with pastors actively engaging in political discourse or making political predictions, particularly during election periods.
“I don’t like it when pastors involve themselves in politics. They should allow politicians to do politics and focus on their own work in the church,” he stated.
According to the former legislator, political engagement by pastors risks dividing church members, who often hold diverse political views.
“Even within the church, people belong to different political affiliations. So how do church members view their pastor, especially when the pastor is making predictions that put some of them at a disadvantage?” he questioned.
Hon. Adu urged religious leaders to reconsider such actions and return their focus to spiritual guidance and pastoral responsibilities.
“I plead with pastors to change from this practice and concentrate on their work in the church,” he added.
He stressed that maintaining neutrality would help preserve unity within religious communities and prevent unnecessary political tensions among worshippers.
