Popular broadcaster and host of Drive Time on Joy FM, Lexis Bill, has sparked conversation about gender roles at home, arguing that it is outdated for men to expect women to shoulder the full burden of cooking after both partners have worked a full day.

Speaking on his show, Lexis Bill noted that in today’s Ghanaian society, both men and women often hold demanding 9-to-5 jobs, making it unfair and “awkward” for a man to return home and expect his wife or partner to prepare meals by default.

“Today, both men and women work 9 to 5 jobs, so it’s awkward for a man to come home and say, ‘I expected you to cook,’” he said, stressing the need for shared responsibility in the household.

His comments have struck a chord with many listeners, igniting discussions on the evolving dynamics of marriage and family life in Ghana. While traditional roles once placed women in charge of domestic duties, increasing economic participation of women has challenged these expectations.

Social media reactions have been mixed. Some praised the broadcaster for promoting fairness and balance in relationships, while others argued that cultural traditions still make cooking a woman’s primary duty.

Lexis Bill’s remarks add to ongoing debates in Ghana about equality, partnership, and how families can adapt to modern pressures without losing cultural identity.
