The Member of Parliament for Nsawam, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of prioritising luxury spending over the welfare of cocoa farmers.
Speaking in a recent engagement with farmers, the MP alleged that the President has acquired multiple aircraft for personal and family use, claiming that one of them is fitted with high-end amenities, including a mid-air bathing facility.
According to him, such alleged expenditure contrasts sharply with the challenges facing players in the cocoa sector. He claimed that some cocoa middlemen and farmers are yet to receive payments, raising concerns about the government’s priorities.
“He is not paying cocoa middlemen and some farmers, yet he is living an extravagant lifestyle,” Annoh-Dompreh stated.
He further argued that the current situation validates earlier warnings his party made to Ghanaians ahead of the elections.
“We warned Ghanaians that this would happen, but they did not listen,” he added.
The Nsawam MP also called on the government to fulfil its financial commitments to farmers, particularly in relation to pricing and support within the cocoa sector.
“All we are saying is that if he cannot pay the 6,000 cedis he promised, he should at least ensure farmers receive the exact prices they were previously being paid,” he said.
