MAHAMA LEADS GHANA’S DELEGATION TO UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN NEW YORK

President John Mahama has travelled to New York to head Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which opens on Tuesday, September 23.

A statement from the Presidency on Sunday, September 21, said the President will address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25. Apart from the main speech, he will also take part in several important side meetings in his role as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions. He is expected to host two sessions focusing on Africa’s economic growth and institutional reforms.

While in New York, President Mahama will hold bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, other world leaders, and the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. He will also meet with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a special appearance at NASDAQ, where he is scheduled to ring the closing bell.

The First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, is part of the delegation. She will attend events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and is also expected to give the keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service for children.

The President’s team includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff (Finance and Administration) and Technical Adviser to the First Lady Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Simon Madjie.

President Mahama and his delegation are expected back in Ghana on September 30.
