President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to modernising Ghana’s transport and logistics sector, pledging transformative reforms aimed at job creation, trade expansion, and sustainable national development.

Speaking at the opening of the maiden Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025 on Wednesday, President Mahama said his government’s agenda to reset and modernise the transport system is anchored on safety, innovation, accessibility, and sustainability, all key pillars of his 2024 campaign manifesto and the Resetting Ghana Agenda.

“My administration is fully committed to building a safe, accessible, and technology-driven transport system that supports job creation, enhances trade, and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063,” he stated.

The three-day fair, themed “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,” is taking place at the World Trade Centre in Accra. It is organised by the Ministry of Transport, in partnership with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ghana Railways, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

The event brings together stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to explore strategies for innovation, efficiency, and investment across all modes of transport.

President Mahama described the fair as a defining moment in Ghana’s quest to transform its infrastructure landscape and boost economic competitiveness.

“Transport is the heartbeat of every economy. It opens markets, creates opportunities, boosts productivity, and fosters inclusive national development,” he said.

The President underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving a modern, efficient, and interconnected transport system. He outlined plans to modernise rail, road, maritime, and aviation networks, integrating them to ensure seamless movement of goods and people within Ghana and across the sub-region.

He also highlighted Ghana’s ongoing efforts toward a green transition, including measures to reduce emissions, expand electric mobility infrastructure, and attract climate-resilient investments into the sector.

On road transport regulation, President Mahama announced plans to establish a robust policy framework for the operation of motorcycles and tricycles, popularly known as Okada, to enhance passenger safety while preserving affordability and accessibility in public transport.

He added that the Ghana Transport and Logistics Fair 2025 demonstrates government’s vision of building a modern, sustainable, and job-creating transport system that positions Ghana as a regional leader in innovative mobility solutions across West Africa.
