President John Dramani Mahama has received the official report on the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight high-ranking government and military officials.

The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, led the committee responsible for investigating the tragedy and presented its findings during a National Security Council meeting held on Monday, November 10, 2025.

According to government officials, the report provides a detailed account of the causes of the crash, along with recommendations aimed at preventing future aviation disasters involving state aircraft.

Sources from the Office of the President have confirmed that the full report will be released publicly on Tuesday, in line with government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The ill-fated helicopter crashed into a forested mountainside in the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board, five passengers and three crew members.

Among the deceased were the Minister for Defence and the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, as well as senior military officers. The team had been travelling to a mining community to participate in an event focused on combating illegal mining (galamsey).

The tragedy plunged the nation into mourning, with three days of national observance declared by the government and a state funeral held in honour of the victims.

Following the crash, a full-scale investigation was launched, and flight recorders were successfully retrieved for analysis. The committee’s report, now submitted to the President, marks the culmination of months of inquiry into one of Ghana’s most devastating aviation incidents in recent history.

President Mahama is expected to issue a public statement after reviewing the report, outlining the next steps toward implementing the committee’s recommendations.
