The government has presented 24 vehicles and 250 motorbikes to five key institutions to strengthen the national campaign against illegal mining.

The beneficiary agencies are the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Forestry Services Division, Minerals Commission, Water Resources Commission, and the Ghana Geological Survey Authority.

The logistics, secured through an inter-agency initiative led by the EPA, are aimed at improving field mobility and monitoring in areas affected by galamsey, which continues to endanger Ghana’s rivers and forests.

Presenting the items in Accra, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, said the move forms part of government’s strategy to build institutional capacity and enhance coordination among agencies leading the anti-galamsey effort.

“Protecting our natural resources demands both commitment and logistics,” the Minister said. “These vehicles and motorbikes will ensure our enforcement teams can reach even the most remote areas.”

He added that the distribution reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to preserving the environment for future generations.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the agencies, the EPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, thanked the government and noted that the support would significantly improve environmental monitoring and enforcement.

“These resources will help us respond faster and manage field operations more effectively,” she said, pledging responsible use and maintenance of the equipment.

The vehicles and motorbikes will support the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force and the Blue Water Guards across major forest and water catchment zones.

The initiative marks a renewed push to intensify the fight against galamsey through better coordination, technology-driven monitoring, and stronger community engagement.
