The Majority Caucus in Parliament, led by Mahama Ayariga, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The iconic stateswoman passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76 years old.

In a heartfelt statement, the Majority Caucus described her passing as a monumental loss to the nation, extending their condolences to her family, especially Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Security and Intelligence.

“The Majority Caucus in Parliament of Ghana has learnt with shock the sudden passing of Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady and wife of H.E. Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings. On behalf of all Majority Members of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Bagbin, and the entire Parliament of Ghana, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and the nation. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. She paid her dues to this country,” the statement read.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is fondly remembered as a trailblazer for women’s empowerment and social justice, whose visionary leadership through the 31st December Women’s Movement uplifted countless Ghanaian women from poverty, illiteracy, and marginalization.

Serving as First Lady from 1981 to 2001, she not only championed women’s rights but also became a formidable political figure in her own right, inspiring courage, resilience, and patriotism across generations.

Her legacy, deeply woven into Ghana’s democratic and social fabric, remains a testament to her lifelong service, bold convictions, and unyielding commitment to the advancement of women and the nation at large.
