The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a 34-year-old ex-convict, Peter Akakpo, also known as Dompe, for his suspected involvement in a series of murders and armed robberies targeting taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region.
Akakpo was picked up on October 13, 2025, at Kasoa-Domeabra, after weeks of intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU). His arrest follows two separate incidents in which taxi drivers were found dead at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9 and June 15, 2025, cases that have since drawn widespread concern.
Police investigations revealed that Akakpo had been in contact with an earlier suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, who was arrested on June 30, 2025, in connection with the same series of crimes. Call records allegedly link Akakpo to both deceased drivers.
In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer at the CID, authorities confirmed that Akakpo was arrested from a room rented by Gbetorglo in Kasoa-Domeabra.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations as efforts intensify to recover the missing vehicles belonging to the slain drivers.
The CID assured the public that investigations are ongoing and pledged to keep citizens informed as new developments unfold.
