Manchester United snatched a priceless victory over Chelsea in a dramatic, rain-soaked Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, with the contest shaped by Robert Sanchez’s fifth-minute red card.

The match, the first in league history to feature two goals, two red cards, and three substitutions all in the first half, was a rollercoaster.

United skipper Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring before Casemiro was sent off to level the numbers. Despite the setback, the home side doubled their advantage when the Brazilian had already made his mark, only for Chelsea to hit back late on through Trevoh Chalobah’s header.

The game’s decisive moment, however, came almost immediately. Chelsea keeper Sanchez raced out to deny Bryan Mbeumo, only to clatter into the striker outside his box. With the forward through on goal, referee Anthony Taylor brandished red, leaving the visitors scrambling.

Manager Enzo Maresca was forced into early tactical surgery, hauling off Pedro Neto and Estevão Willian, while star man Cole Palmer limped off with a recurring groin injury, three attacking losses inside 20 minutes.

Chelsea rallied but lacked the firepower to overturn United’s lead, and the result keeps the Blues winless at Old Trafford since 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.

For United, it was just their second league victory of the season, delivered in front of minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who had offered head coach Ruben Amorim a public vote of confidence only two days earlier.
