Residents of Manso Nyakomase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region are protesting what they describe as an unauthorized land reclamation exercise being carried out on mined sites without their consent.

The agitated residents, including small-scale miners, youth, and opinion leaders, argue that the exercise is being done without proper consultation and threatens their livelihoods.

Speaking at a community press conference, spokesperson Dominic Sarkodie said the lands in question are privately owned by families and individuals, not part of any government concession, forest reserve, or river body.

“We are not working in any forest or river area. This is our own land, our inheritance,” he stressed. “We are responsible miners and have plans to reclaim our lands after our operations. No one has the right to move machines here without consulting us.”

The residents called on the District Chief Executive, Benjamin Marfo, and the government to intervene to prevent the situation from escalating into conflict.

They maintained that small-scale mining remains their main source of livelihood and insisted that any reclamation effort must involve community participation and approval.
