Former Manhyia South MP and 2024 vice-presidential running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, says the past ten months have been a period of quiet reflection and personal renewal, describing it as the most meaningful stretch of his public life in over a decade.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the time has allowed him to slow down and reconnect with both himself and the people he serves. “In the last ten months, I’ve truly been enjoying life,” he shared, highlighting a rare moment of calm after years of intensive political engagement.
Asked by host Evans Mensah if he could really relax, he laughed and replied, “I’ve been reading, reflecting, and enjoying life, my brother.”
He explained that his break has been more than just leisure. Through a nationwide listening tour, he has reconnected with communities, re-grounded himself, and gained clarity on his purpose moving forward. “I’ve been going around the country, listening, reconnecting with my roots, and ensuring my feet are firmly on the ground,” he said.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that this period has been one of introspection, allowing him to carefully consider the path ahead. “I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting, doing a soul search, and thinking about the purpose going forward,” he noted.
Reflecting on the past sixteen years of his political career, he said the current period of calm stands out as the most valuable and restorative: “It’s been the best time in the last probably 16 years.”
