Mourners on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, converged at the Bantama Presby School Park in the Ashanti Region for the one-week celebration of the late gospel music legend, Maame Tiwaa.

The solemn gathering brought together family members, close associates, industry players, and admirers from across the country, all united in grief and remembrance as they honoured her life, faith, and enduring musical legacy.
The ceremony was marked by an outpouring of tributes, prayers, and reflections on the impact Maame Tiwaa made through her music and personal devotion to the gospel. Many attendees described her as a humble servant whose voice helped shape some of Ghana’s most cherished gospel songs.
Maame Tiwaa, a celebrated backing vocalist for veteran gospel musician Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo group, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, after a short illness. Her contribution to the group spanned decades and played a significant role in producing gospel classics that continue to inspire worshippers nationwide.
Beyond her musical achievements, mourners recalled her dedication and compassion, particularly her active support and care for Yaw Sarpong during his health challenges prior to her passing.
Her final public appearances included a tribute performance to Yaw Sarpong at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards and a performance at her son’s wedding, moments many now describe as deeply symbolic of her lifelong commitment to music, family, and ministry.
As tributes continue to pour in, Maame Tiwaa is being remembered not only as a gifted vocalist but also as a devoted believer whose influence on Ghana’s gospel music scene will endure for generations.
