Nikyema Billa Alamzy, Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, has publicly criticised a recent exchange involving former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President John Mahama, saying former leaders should exercise caution when commenting on the conduct of sitting presidents.

In comments that have circulated online, Mr Alamzy said it was inappropriate for former heads of state to adopt a tone of moral judgement that risks inflaming partisan tensions. He called for measured and constructive public interventions that help deepen national dialogue rather than deepen divisions.

“I believe former leaders have a responsibility to speak carefully and responsibly,” the MP said, according to accounts of his remarks. “We need unity and sober reflection, not rhetoric that fans the flames of political rivalry.”

The MP’s intervention follows a period of heightened public debate about the conduct and performance of political leaders. Mr. Alamzy urged all public figures to prioritise national interest and to avoid language that could be perceived as unduly provocative.

Efforts to locate a verbatim transcript of Mr Alamzy’s comment produced conflicting accounts, and the exact phrasing that has circulated could not be independently verified at the time of publication. This report therefore paraphrases his expressed concerns rather than quoting an unconfirmed line.
